Dylan drives a great race at Lucas Oil Raceway

DSC_0170Brownsburg, IL - Dylan Martin and the Empire Racing Group pulled into Brownburg,IN with an expectation of a great race. Although the finishing position wasn't what they were hoping for, Dylan and the team had a great race. Dylan didn't practice at Lucas Oil Raceway before Friday, July 22nd, the day of the race. ARCA had 2 practice sessions slated for the drivers that afternoon before qualifying. The feels-like temperature was a steamy 105 in the heat of the day. Because LOR is such a flat track with little banking, the officials and fans wouldn't be able to see the track during race time so the haulers weren't able to park in the pits. This left the teams without a place to get out of the heat, but that didn't stop them from giving 100% all day. Grumpy Cheek, crew chief, engineered the car with his knowledge of the racetrack and set the car up to Dylan's driving style. After the first practice session, Dylan said the car wouldn't turn in the corners. The crew made some adjustment and he went back out. Dylan said it was better but it would chatter up the track when he got on the throttle. For the second practice session the crew changed the sway bar and bolted on sticker tires to give Dylan the best mock qualifying run possible. At one point in the second practice session, Dylan was on the speed charts in 8th position. Dylan was happy with the car and its set up and he was anxious to see where he could put the car come qualifying time. Dylan would be the 12th car to qualify. When Dylan took the checkered for qualifying he was sitting 2nd on the speed chart. Dylan and the team would have to wait until all 33 cars qualified before they'd know where Dylan would be starting in the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 presented by Jive. Dylan found himself starting in 11th position. It was an incredible team effort and starting 11th was a great result from everyone's hard work.

Dylan Heading to Indy

77a57fc2-30da-4fe6-8e1c-435cb4ec8abfMoorseville, NC - Dylan Martin heads to Indianapolis. Dylan will be racing on the flat track of Lucas Oil Raceway (formerly known as IRP) in his Blackwater Integration/Empire Racing Group/Grumpy's Inc Ford Mustang in the ARCA Racing Series presented by MenardsSioux Chief PowerPEX® 200 presented by Jive. This will be Dylan's second start in the ARCA series. His first was at the Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in April. The caution flags didn't fly to his advantage in that race and tires proved to be a key. Dylan is anxious to improve on his finishing spot in Friday's race at LOR. Dylan has been racing in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock series at various tracks (Hickory Motor Speedway, Caraway Speedway, Greenville-Pickens Speedway) and has gained insight and experience with driving these heavier cars, unlike the Super Late Models he had been driving in Florida. Dylan said, "I am excited to get back in the driver's seat of the #48. Our team has worked hard toget the car ready for Friday night's race. I have learned a lot these last few months and I hope I can show that on the racetrack Friday night and bring home a good finish for the team." Read more

Dylan takes another shot at Hickory Motor Speedway

sftgsSaturday, June 25, 2016 - Dylan was bent on taking another shot at Hickory Motor Speedway and he was about to get the chance in the 80 lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock series race. His first race at this historic track came with an 11th place finish and racing without any radio communications with his spotter, crew chief or team. The team had put hours into getting the car ready for Dylan and Dylan had put in hours of practice getting ready to get behind the wheel and improve on his first race results. This would be the first race Dylan's family wouldn't make it to so he had Danny Hansen of HMedia join him to document the day through Dylan's social media sites and photographing the race.

Dylan Takes on Historic NASCAR Tracks

1Dylan Martin's journey has not only brought him to Kannapolis, NC (birth place of Dale Earnhardt, Sr), but it has brought him to the opportunity to race at some historical NASCAR tracks as well. Dylan took to Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC on May 14th, where there were 29 races held for the NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup) tour between 1951 until 1971. It also hosted two NASCAR Busch Grand National (now Xfinity Series) tour races in 1983. On April 10, 1971 Greenville-Pickens Speedway held the first NASCAR race that was nationally televised from start to finish, on ABC Wide World of Sports. The track has seen legendary winners such as Richard Petty, Ned Jarrett, Buck Baker and David Pearson, to name a few. The iconic history was definitely felt when Dylan rounded the track and was welcomed by the names of recent and past track champions that are painted on the walls of the track. Dylan raced in the twin 75's in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock series on May 14th. And while the finishes were not what the team and the driver had hoped for, his 8th place and 10th place finishes were sweetened with the history that this local track is keeping alive. With Dylan being a driver in the Empire Racing Group Driver Development Program and their partnership with Richard Petty Motorsports, racing on a track where the "King" (Richard Petty) found himself in victory lane multiple times puts a brighter light on the road that Dylan is striving to pave for himself.

Today, June 4th, Dylan will take to the track of Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC. This week, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., tweeted a picture of the Earnhardt family's late models that they raced at Hickory Motor Speedway in 1995. Tom Jensen with Fox Sports.com tweets, It's easy to forget now, but once upon a time Kerry, Kelley and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were all up-and-coming racecar drivers. Hickory has adopted the phrase, The BIRTHPLACE of the NASCAR STARS to describe this classic speedway and today Dylan will be amongst the many that have had the privilege to dawn these corners of this racetrack. Hickory hosted NASCAR's Grand National Series (later the Sprint Cup) from 1953 to 1971. Junior Johnson became the most successful driver at Hickory, winning there seven times. Today, Dylan will compete in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock series in a 100 lap race. Hickory is often referred to as the "World's Most Famous Short Track" and Dylan will now get to include his name as one of the up-and-coming racers that have taken on the challenge of Hickory Motor Speedway.

Dylan's Season is well underway

510246d9-8e36-4770-b25f-8d083f09d7daDylan and the team have been busy preparing Dylan's Late Model Stock for the next race scheduled for this Saturday, May 14th at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC. Dylan will be driving in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Twin 75's. Dylan hasn't driven this track before and he is anxious to take on a new 1/2 mile track challenge. The car has been refreshed and will take the track with a new look on Saturday. Between the car undergoing a refresh, Dylan's short break from behind the wheel and a new look for the car, the team and Dylan are ready to fire up the engine and get back to green flag racing.

fe88a994-6bee-49d1-b76d-cd793dff4bf1Dylan may not have been behind the wheel in the General Tire 200 at Talladega Speedway, April 29th when the ARCA Racing Series held the 4th race of the season, but he was a team member for the #48 Support Our Troops team of Sean Corr who finished the race in a dramatic finish in 5th place. The crew worked for weeks leading up to the race to prepare Sean's car and as Sean stated, they gave him a great car and the crew gave him some great restarting positions following pit stops during the race. Dylan was able to experience the race from outside the car and on pit road helping Sean bring his car home with a 5th place finish.

Dylan looks forward to the next time he will be behind the wheel of his Empire Racing #82 ARCA car on July 22nd in the ARCA 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis.

Martin proves tires are factor at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville

unnamedThe haulers rolled in Friday afternoon to Nashville's Fairgrounds Speedway and were welcomed with frigid temperatures and a brisk breeze. Even though the air was cold, the fans warmed the drivers up with their support and Dylan signed autographs Friday night for some new fans as he was taking part in his first ARCA race on Saturday, April 9th. Saturday morning might have been cold, but the team was quick to get the car warmed up and ready for the first round of practice.

Dylan and the team had worked hard in the prior weeks preparing the car for his ARCA debut. There was a certain sense of expectation and anticipation in the air. The crew worked throughout the day to make adjustments to the car to account for the track conditions and the car itself. They strived to find as much speed in the car as they could while making sure it was still drivable for Dylan. Qualifying came at 4:30pm on Saturday and Dylan rolled off his fastest lap of the day at 19.719 giving him a 16th starting position in a field of 34 cars in Saturday's Music City 200. Read more
